Steve Weissman

After graduation I attended the University of Bridgeport for one year. I then transferred to Hofstra College (it was not yet a "University").  After a year I switched to part-time as my Dad was diagnosed with leukemia and I had to go to work to help my Mom with bills.  Ultimately I switched to CW Post.

It was now time to wait to be drafted or enlist as the Vietnam war was raging.  I enlisted in the Naval Air Reserve and was sent to Millington NAS (Memphis) for boot camp and "A" School, and served my stint at Floyd Bennet Field, Brooklyn.  I was one of the lucky ones that was never called for active duty. While still living in NY I worked for American Express, Dictaphone and NCR in sales.

After marrying in 1970 we moved to Hialeah, which at that time was a growing community.  I reconnected with Dictaphone and had a territory in Ft. Lauderdale.  At that time the tallest building was only 4 stories tall.  A far cry from what it looks like now.  Shortly after I was promoted to management and relocated to New Orleans where we stayed for 2 1/2 years. Returning to Florida (we lived in Tampa) with Dictaphone where my son was born in 1975. We then spent a few years in Bradenton, where back then people would say "where is that?"

By the time the calendar flipped to 1980 we had moved to Fern Park (north of Orlando) where I began a 40 year career in the fabric industry selling notions to small independent fabric stores for a Texas/Atlanta distributor.

In 1995 my wife and I divorced and after 2 years I went on my own as an Independent fabric rep selling to the same customer base. I also started to rep a button company 1995.  Two years later I married my button Sales Manager and we have been together for the past 22 years.

We ultimately bought a home where we now live in Palm City (Stuart) Florida.  Although she is from Roanoke, Va. at the time we met she was living in Denver.  A marriage vow I made was that one day we would own a home in Colorado and in 2011 we purchased a small condo in Littleton.  Four years ago, she being an avid skier, we sold the condo and bought a 2nd home in Lakewood, CO.

So after 53 years of working I retired at the end of May 2019 and travel back and forth between homes as her schedule allows.  She is still working as an Senior Account Rep for a food broker and looking forward to her retirement in a couple of years.
