Steven Ross (Dr.)
After graduation, I attended Allegheny College, in Meadville PA. (The hometown of Sharon Stone, who was probably in grade school). I graduated with a BS in Chemistry. I also learned what a Wind-Chill of -15 feels like. While there, I was at first Chief Engineer of the college FM radio station, and then Station Manager. We were named the best radio station in the Great Lakes Region of the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System. The faculty voted me into Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities In my senior year.

I then attended SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, met my future wife Phyllis on a blind date, was commissioned in the US Navy (active duty each summer), married in 1968 and graduated in 1969. A year of Internship at Beth Israel gave us the chance to enjoy life in “the city”. I then returned to Downstate in Brooklyn for a four-year residency in OB-GYN. The Navy called again, my rank was raised to Lt. Cmdr., and I was assigned to the Philadelphia Naval Hospital to teach residents. and protect Philadelphia from invasion. While there, I was sent as the ship’s medical officer for a 10-week training cruise to GITMO. It was fun to tell the 600 crew and marines that their doctor was a gynecologist. I also was responsible for taste testing the ship’s soft ice cream machine each day.

My two-year tour ended, and I joined an OB-GYN group in Port Jefferson, which grew to 15 MD’s by the time I retired in 2010. During my practice years, became Board Certified, was on staff at Stony Brook University Hospital as a teaching attending, president of the medical staff at J.T. Mather Hospital, president of the Suffolk County OB-GYN Society, delivered about 3000 babies and was managing partner of my group.

I was fortunate to have successful bypass surgery in early 2016.
Phyllis and I are blessed with two sons, a grand dog and two grand children, for whom we joyfully babysit. We will celebrate our 50th Anniversary in August. We arrange family vacations, and enjoy visiting National Parks and Presidential Libraries.
